The story, year by year

Taivas is Finnish for sky. It started in 2019 as one mentoring session, run by Tatsam Lamba. This is what happened next.

  1. 2019

    A single session

Tatsam Lamba begins mentoring students in debate and public speaking out of pure passion. By year end, students are winning local competitions.

    Word of mouth

Teams begin competing at regional and state tournaments. The vision for a larger platform takes shape.

  3. 2021

    Classes move online

With schools closed through COVID, Taivas takes its classes online, so students can keep debating in live batches with a coach from home.

  4. 2022

    Taivas Debate Club

Officially launched. In six months: 20+ champion teams, 400+ students, growing recognition.

  5. 2023

    Into schools

Taivas begins running debate and public speaking programmes with partner schools across Delhi NCR and North India. Over 1,000 students coached.

  6. 2024

    Every major format

3,000+ students trained across 20+ schools and institutions, with specialised programmes for Cambridge, Oxford and WSDC formats.

    Campuses and a national championship

Campus bootcamps at six universities, AI Labs by Taivas, and a national speech and debate championship for school students.

Why Taivas exists

Most students have plenty to say. Very few are ever taught how to say it.

School gives a child one chance a year to stand up and speak, usually in front of forty classmates, usually without a coach. Taivas started in 2019 as one mentoring session to change that, and it is still the point: make world-class debate and public speaking training available to every student in India, not only the ones at schools with a debating tradition.

Our mission
Give every school student in India a coach, a small room and a stage, so they learn to speak with confidence and think with clarity.
What we want for your child
To hold a room. To think while being challenged. And to be wrong well, which is where the real learning starts.

How we teach

Four things stay the same in every Taivas programme, online or in person.

  1. Every child speaks in every class

Batches are capped at ten. In a room that small nobody can hide, and nobody has to wait a month for their turn.

  2. Coaches who compete

Our coaches debate on national circuits themselves. They teach rebuttal the way they use it, not from a textbook.

  3. A stage every term

In-class rounds, a showcase at the end of the term, and championships for the students who want them. Competing is optional. Speaking well is not.

  4. Progress you can see

Every class is recorded. Every term your child is scored on four skills, and you get a certificate and a written report.
